If all a person did was read the Cape Cod Times or have knowledge of so-called gag-order bills being proposed by our state legislature, they might think that Pregnancy Resource Centers (PRCs) are a bad idea. But this couldn’t be further from the truth.
A pregnancy resource center (PRC) is a privately funded center to assist pregnant woman. There are over 3,000 such centers in the United States. Services provided by many PRCs include life-affirming counseling by skilled patient advocates, pregnancy tests, and ultrasound imaging performed by certified sonographers and read by licensed physicians. The purpose of everything a PRC does is to empower a pregnant woman with all of the information needed to make an informed decision on her pregnancy.
Unlike Planned Parenthood and other clinics who provide abortions, PRC’s do not dispense chemical abortion pills nor perform surgical abortions. PRCs begin with the assumption that a woman facing an unexpected pregnancy needs love, support, and knowledge to make informed decisions. Should a woman decide to have an abortion after watching a sonogram of their baby and talking through all available avenues of support, it’s her right to do so. PRCs don’t judge. In the words of a mother who visited a Planned Parenthood clinic, the difference is stark. A PRC starts by asking how they can help. When I was pregnant and went to Planned Parenthood, they began by asking me if I wanted an abortion.
A number of our State Senators want to silence PRCs based upon unfounded accusations and outright falsehoods. They want to go even further and make it unlawful for a healthcare professional to refuse to participate in abortion procedures due to religious beliefs. Why are pro-abortion forces so worried that a woman might learn important information about her pregnancy, the support that is available for her and her baby, and the fact that there are healthcare professionals opposed to abortion?
PRCs are a big deal because they play an important role supporting women and their children in a way that pro-abortion organizations do not! For more information on how you can support expanding access to PRCs on Cape Cod please go to https://capecodprolife.org/
